Oh boy oh boy!! Just last week I was playing Freespace Open, and ordered a new joystick, when this came up as a coming soon on my steam! I miss this genre SO much, and i’m so excited to see something be reborn! and in Unreal Engine 3! I love playing with UDK, so this is a plus for me to see that a space action sim was made with that engine. I wish you guys the best on launch, I’m totally looking forward to this! Please implement multiplayer at some point <3
Excited space sim fan,
Greysyn

Ive been telling a few friends and posting on a regular PC forum in the UK about this game. Hope it’s as good as I’ve been telling people it looks or my reputation is in tatters!
January 25, 2012 at 11:13 am
Wow, Jeff, we’re humbled! We’re very proud of SOL but there are always things you can do better and we have a list as long as my arm. We just wanted to make a fun, polished game at a price that nobody could reasonably say no to. We hope we’ve succeeded there. If not, we’ll happily defend your honor. As soon as we can scrape some money together to buy airfare to the UK…

I’m all giddy waiting to the last 30ish minutes on the countdown, Steam seems to say it will be unlocked 8 hours later but I’m crossing my fingers for a typo
I can’t wait to start playing this, X3 and Evochron are nice, but sometimes you just want to jump on and blow stuff up. I really miss that in games these days, too much grinding in almost all genres.
ps, will there be a steam forum on release? I don’t have, nor want, a facebook or twitter account.
January 25, 2012 at 11:07 am
Hi Lugard,
Thanks for your comment! We agree, the more space games the better! There will indeed have a Steam forum for SOL (they assure me it will magically appear the moment the game unlocks!).

Finally the genre that started pc gaming for me returns.

Hay guys just wanted to let you know I’ll be picking this up once I get paid, I really cannot wait to play SOL Exodus as I have sorely missed the Space Combat Sim genre.
I have no idea how many times I’ve replayed Decent: Freespace, Freespace 2 and Freelancer just to get my fix of space combat!!
There is 1 question I would like to ask though, Does SOL have Newtonian physics like Freelancer or is it more in line with Freespace?
P.S. I realllllly hope this does well!!!!
January 24, 2012 at 8:16 pm
Yeah, I’m getting this the second it drops. I’m glad you guys stepped away from trade/exploration, because, while X is fun, it wasn’t scratching that itch that Freespace 2 had left behind. I’m pretty sure my entire family will be picking this up.
How long do you think it will be before DLC is released? 8 missions feels a bit short.

We’re very excited over at GWJ about this one. One of our regulars there runs http://www.spacegamejunkie.com/, where we saw an excellent Q&A with Chris Stockman, as well as some early gameplay impressions. There are lots of us ex-space jockeys out there that long for the days of X-Wing, TIE Fighter, Wing Commander, and Freespace. Can’t wait for tomorrow!

Brilliant looking game. I heard about it last year via a feature piece on Escapistmagazine.com, and was VERY presently surprised when I realised you were releasing this week. It’ll be good to, literally, blow the dust of my joystick and get in the cockpit after a long while.
One question: Is it available in the UK, and what price will it be? There is a Steam page for it, but no price shown. $9.99 is about £6.45, but I’d guess there is extra tax and such.
I hope you guys have a great launch day, and beyond!

Hey Adam,
We aren’t doing any region restrictions so you shouldn’t have any problem buying in the UK. We didn’t set any special price for UK sales, but admittedly we aren’t that familiar with the international side of digital sales.
Thanks for writing!
Dan

I am a huge Freelancer, DarkStar One, X3 fan and I am interested about this game as well. But this game is all about dogfights? We can’t trade, travel across galaxies and making quests? I hope you will add these kind of features in future too. Because this genre is nearly dead and I am sad because of it. I really want new Freelancer, X-Wing vs Tie Fighter games. I hope you will do well and your game sell well. Thanks. I will support you.

Hi Ercan,
The focus of SOL is definitely action, and probably will be for the foreseeable future. We are a small team and had to choose a core focus; ours is combat action, and to a somewhat lesser degree, story. If Exodus is as successful as we hope, we will absolutely be expanding the gameplay and doing some things we weren’t able to do initially, but we’re really not focused on things like trade and economy. I would say we’re much closer to an X-Wing than Freelancer.

Is there a forum?
I may be blind and missed it, but it would help a lot in building a community as I want to talk about the game with others
January 24, 2012 at 7:29 pm
Hi Kurtis,
We may add official forums on our site at some point, but for now why not post on our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/solexodus
There will also be a forum on SteamCommunity.com that we’ll link to once it’s live.
Thanks for your support!

Hey Guys,
Whatever happened to a console release? Is that still in the works or will this remain PC only? There’s really nothing out there for us console gamers craving some space combat
January 23, 2012 at 11:57 am
Hey Starbuck. Great question! While we’d love to release the game on console (it plays great with a controller and we’d much prefer to play our own game from the couch!), publishers continue to tell us they do not believe in the genre. Self-publishing on the major consoles is not really possible, which is why we have chosen to focus our efforts on Steam. For a small team like ours, it offers us a chance to reach a large audience and financial terms that don’t cripple us simply for the privilege of being on their platform. Hopefully we can surprise some people with strong sales and send a message to the publishers that people DO WANT these games, but nobody is making them!

Hey Dan,
Great work by the company and entire team, 10 bucks is a great deal. Be good for you guys to get the funds coming back your way and pay some of the bills.
Now to squeeze in playing time with SWTOR.

Thanks Daryl! Let us know what you think! We think the game is a great deal for $10, but we are a little biased. Hopefully the public agrees, and we’ll get to continue making great space games.

Any plans for a steamless (notice the t) entertainment? Or even a boxed version? I would buy it untested, but not via Steam.

Hi Azrael,
We did just announce a German retail SKU with our publishing partner, Headup Games. See the story here: http://www.pcgames.de/SOL-Exodus-PC-239140/News/SOL-Exodus-Publisher-fuer-Deutschland-gefunden-erste-Details-zur-Story-des-Space-Shooters-864965/
Unfortunately, PCGames.de used some really old screenshots and videos
but we are very excited to release in Germany!

I just recently found out about this game from an article on Joystiq. I’m a huge fan of space combat simulators and this one has definitely caught my eye. I’m really impressed with how polished the game looks. From what I’ve seen in the videos, the combat looks fun. And the graphics look great. I’m glad you guys decided to use Unreal Engine 3. I also like the story. I find the concept of a dying star to be quite interesting. I guess it wouldn’t be a surprise if I said I loved Danny Boyle’s Sunshine (2007).
Anyway, I look forward to playing SOL: Exodus.
January 23, 2012 at 11:27 am
Thanks for the kind words, Yusuf. With such a small team, we knew we could not put everything we wanted into the game, so we decided to really focus on a smaller scope first and really polish it in every way, rather than going for a hundred bullet points but an experience that ends up feeling empty. We have all been on that expectation ride before, especially when it comes to space games. Our hope is that we provide a great experience, and you come away feeling like you got a great deal for $10 and you want more. If we succeed in doing both of things, we will definitely be doing more!
Sunshine is a great movie! Ironically it *wasn’t* initially a key influence and was something about half the team hadn’t seen when we first began discussing the project, but it was definitely something that we tried to incorporate some elements of as we refined the story and characters. Glad you noticed!

Thanks! Please tell your friends, clan-mates, raid buddies, bowling league, mail man, and local congressman!
The more people who know about the game, the better!
